Born on May 31, 1923 in LenaRue, Kentucky to the late Marshall and Eva Copen, she was an area resident for most of her life.

In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her sisters, Janet and Bernice and brothers, Marshall and Ivan.

Virginia (Ginger) retired after a long career at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and then continued to pursue her love of gardening, fishing and remodeling every house she ever owned.

Ivan N. Copen, 74, husband, father and grandfather, died Jan. 19, 2005.

He was born Feb. 19, 1930, in Cumberland, Ky., to Marshall and Eva Copen.  He was raised in Kentucky and West Virginia until he joined the army in 1948 upon high school graduation.

Mr. Copen served his country at home and abroad in Germany, Italy and Austria where he met and married his wife, Margareta.

He served in the Korean War and two tours in the Viet Nam War.  He earned numerous medals including the Army Commendation Medal, the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart.

Mr. Copen and his family enjoyed his army career living in Germany, Italy, New York, New Jersey, Wyoming and Colorado.  He retired from active duty in 1969 with the rank of Master Sgt.

During and after his active duty he was an ROTC instructor at various colleges and high schools in Wyoming and Colorado.  He coached many outstanding rifle teams and won the National Championship in 1968.

Because of his love for the mountains and their many outdoor offerings, he and Margareta moved to Howard after his retirement from the ROTC program.

They owned and operated the Frontier Café for many years and subsequently moved to Salida three years ago.

He was an ardent fisherman and enjoyed camping, mushroom hunting, walks with his wife and dogs, wood-working, reading, poker nights with his friends, mentoring his grandchildren, and regaling them with his stories.

Mr. Copen was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother, Marshall Copen, and his sister, Janet Peal.

He is survived by his wife, Margareta; daughters, Ruth (Bradley) Roush, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Linda (Martin) Epp, Salida; Karen (Will) Yunikar, Salida; grandchildren, Tia Hasenjaeger, Lucas Talbot, Corinne Stasco, Madison Cassels, Tyler Kaess and Cory Kaess and great-grandson, Ryan Hasenjaeger; sisters, Berniece Gauss, Michigan; Ginger Hodge, Ohio; Faith Medley, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to a gathering honoring his life from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 27, 2005, in the Howard Community Hall.

She was born Dec. 28, 1932, in Uler, W.Va., and a graduate of Spencer High School in Spencer, W.Va. Ruth loved to play bingo and adored her grandchildren. Ashley, 2, the youngest, has kept her busy the past two years.

BERNIE E. LOVEJOY JR., 78, of South Point, Ohio passed away Friday, April 4, 2003, in St. Marys Medical Center.

Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Chapmans Mortuary, Huntington.  Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park.

He was born Oct. 24, 1924, in Allen, Lincoln County, W.Va., a son of the late Bernie E. Lovejoy Sr. and Esta Miller Lovejoy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, one brother, an infant son and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lolita and Carl Wilgus, who loved him as their son.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II, and retired from Huntington Alloys as Coordinator of Government Sales with 35 years of service.  He was a member of 26th Street Church of Christ, VFW Post 1064, Tri-State Management Club, Inco Quarter Century Club and many other civic organizations.

Survivors include his wife to whom he was happily married for 56 years, Jean Wilgus Lovejoy of South Point; two daughters, Lorri Lovejoy Collins and her husband, Curtis, and Robin Lovejoy Rice and her husband, Donald, all of South Point; two sisters, Doris Bindschadler of Florida and Sandra Nance of Huntington; one brother, Robert William Lovejoy of Florida; and two granddaughters, Carri Danae Sturgeon of Huntington and Autumn Ann Rice of South Point.

Bernie was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who never met a stranger, and had a keen sense of humor.

Friends may call from noon to service time Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Chapmans Mortuary.

Born September 13, 1933, in Huntington, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Blanche Purdue Board. He retired from the Smart Shop, having worked in maintenance and as a shipping and receiving clerk.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda and Debra Lewis; one brother, Johnny Lewis; and two sisters, Mary Newman and Sally Stephenson. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carolyn Lewis of Huntington; a special nephew, Paul Bailey; and two brothers-in-law, Kendell Hooser of Huntington and LeRoy Hooser of Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Jerry Matt, 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, at the Reger Funeral Chapel, Huntington, with burial to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Reger Funeral Home.

Charles E. "Eddie" Ferrell, 61, of Madison died Feb. 2, 2009, at home.

Eddie was a coal miner in West Virginia before moving to Florida where he was employed by the Broward County School Board.

He returned to Boone County in 1996 to operate MegaPower Mining and Industrial - a business venture with his brother - until it closed in 2005.

He enjoyed the outdoors.  He loved to garden and fish.  He also had a great love of animals, especially his pet and companion, Spike.  He was a member of the Danville First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Ferrell, and his brother and best friend, Harry Lee Ferrell.

He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Ferrell of Ashland, Ky.; mother, Helen Ferrell of Madison; sisters, Francie Workman and Kay Cooke, both of Madison; Amanda's mother, Donna Ferrell, and her children, Gary Tobias and Tara Crawford, all of Beckley.  In addition he leaves behind cousins, nieces, nephews, other special family members, and dear old friends.

He was loved by many who knew him through the years and had the peasure of sharing his laughter and good times.

Funeral service was Feb. 8 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev. John Barker officiating.  Burial followed in Boone Memorial Park, Madison.
