VERNA BARKER HILL, 98, of Huntington, W.Va., died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Sweet Run Elder Care in Kenova, W.Va.

Funeral service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Chapmans Mortuary, Huntington, Pastor Fred Ramey officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.

Verna was born March 26, 1904, in Spurlocksville, W.Va., a daughter of the late James Madison and Francis Miller Barker.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hansford Hill; four children; one sister, Emer Spurlock; and one brother, Albert Barker.

Survivors include one daughter, Lillian Chandler of Huntington; one son and daughter-in-law, Thurman and Lois Fern Hill of Prichard, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Loretta McCallister and her husband Randy of Prichard; two great-grandsons, Jon David McCallister and his wife Stacie of Kenova, and Zachary McCallister of Prichard; one great-great-granddaughter, Paige McCallister of Kenova; and a special niece Ermaline Adkins of Kenova and several other nieces and nephews.

The family would like a special thank you to go to the staff of Sweet Run Elder Care for all their loving care. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at Chapmans Mortuary.

Memorial services were conducted Sunday, July 28, 2002, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Brent Gibson.  Burial in Blue Sulphur Cemetery.

She was born October 2, 1903, in Gilbert, W.Va, a daughter of the late Harvey G. and Brooke Browning Ferrell.  She was the oldest member of Mud River Baptist Church

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelton Price Sr.; two sons, James F. Price and Shelton Price Jr.; one grandson Marvin Price; and one great-grandson Chad Allen Price.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Clifton G. "Kip" and Joyce Price of Ravenswood, and H. Kenton and Virginia Price of Ona; four grandchildren, Kenny Price of Parkersburg, James Price of Sumpter, S.C., Clifton "Kip" Price Jr. of Washington, W.Va., and Gregory K. Price of Ravenswood; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one special nephew, Ron Ferrell of Ona.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mud River Baptist Church.

1930 indicates she was 1st married at age 21 (abt 1906).  He was first married at age 30 (abt 1893).  His first wife was Eliza J Hill (b: 1880). 1900 census of Washington Dist, Lincoln Co. WV, page 326A, indicates Eliza and J. Lige Dunlap were married about 4 years (1896) with a son Car who is age 1.
