Obituary:

Watson W. VandeLinde, former Sheriff of Lincoln County and retired timber, gas, and oil operator, died Wednesday at his home after an extended illness.

Mr. VandeLinde, 87, of Griffithsville was a native of Boone County, moving to Lincoln in 1915.  He was elected Sheriff, serving two terms from 1924 to 1928 and from 1932 to 1936.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Griffithsville.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Murlie Miller VandeLinde; two sons Dennie M. VandeLinde and Macel R. VandeLinde of Hamlin; three brothers, Robert, Ben, and Johnnie and one sister, Laura Ball of Madison; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Koontz Funeral Home in Hamlin by the Rev. Ra1ph Jaynes and the Rev. J. E. Burch.  Burial was in the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery at Hamlin.
