OBITUARY - M. A. Byrnside Dies in Hospital:

A two-year illness proved fatal to Marshall Azariah Byrnisde, 68, Madison attorney and bank cashier, in a Charleston hospital Thursday.

Mr. Byrnside was a member of the West Virginia Bar Assn. and the law firm of Leftwich, Byrnside and Shaffer of Madison, and was cashier of the Boone County Bank.  After the merger of two Madison banks, he was in charge of the legal and real estate transactions of the new institution, the Boone National Bank.

He was a member of the Madison Baptist church.  He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Essie Hill Burnside; two daughters, Mrs. W. A. Benfield, Jr., Louisville, Ky.. and Mrs. John Milne, Logan; three sons, John and George of Madison, and CBM Fred L. Brynside of the navy, and seven grandchildren.

The family requested that flowers be omitted for the services which will be held Sunday with the Hunter and Hunter mortuary in charge.

Mrs. Mattie A Shriver, 71, died yester at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Cook, of 110 Oakland Dr., Cross Lanes, with whom she made her home.

A native of Boone County, she had resided in Nitro area for the past two-and-one-half years.

Mrs. Shriver was a member of the Madison Baptist Church for 30 years.

Survivors are another daughter, Mrs. Gwendolyn McNelly of Columbus; two sons, John T. of Cross Lanes and Paul K of Dublin, Va.; a sister, Mrs Euna Copley of Madison; and five grandsons.

The body is at Alley and Casdorph Funeral Home in St. Albans.

James B. Griffith

YAWKEY - James Blaine Griffith, 72, of Yawkey, Lincoln County, died Sunday at his home after a long illness.   He was a retired farmer.

Mr. Griffith was a member of the Porter Fork Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Esta;   Three daughters, Mrs. William Runyon of Yawkey, Mrs. Woodrow Bias of Ruth, and Mrs. Brady Marker of Dry Branch;   two sons, Ralph of Yawkey and Gail of Alkol;   a grandson, whom he raised as a foster son, Harold Runyon of Sod;   a brother, Wilmer of Cleveland, Ohio;   six sisters, Mrs. J. M . Little of Kermit, Mrs. R. H. King of Albany, Ohio, Mrs. Mary Brogan of Florida, Mrs. Ian Moore of Sumerco, Mrs. R. E. Haught of Parkersburg, and Mrs. A. J. Williamson of Davis Creek;   24 other grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Porter Fork Baptist Church at Yawkey by the Rev. Earl McCormick and the Ref. F. H. Black.   Burial will be in the Midkiff Cemetery at Sumerco.

The body will be taken to the residence at 4 p.m. today from the Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek.

BLUFFTON - R. Esmond Griffith, a retired farmer, died Sunday night in Bluffton Community Hospital at age 76.

He was born in Snowdon, W. Va., on March 23 1889, the son of William S. and Ellen Smith Griffith.  He was married to Alma Kohler, who survives.

Other survivors are a son, Glenn, of Schenectady, N.Y.;  three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Thelma) Mercereau of Halcyon Calif.,  Mrs. Walter (Ellen) Hitchen, 3792 St. Johns, Lima, and Mrs. Darrell (Margaret) Carr, Mount Cory;  three brothers Archibold of Madison, W. Va., William of Phoenix, Ariz, and Max of New Jersey; and a sister, Mrs. Lena Fenimore of Charleston, W.Va.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Basinger Funeral Home.  Rev. Martin Waidmann will officiate.  Burial will be in Maplegrove Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

My mom says that her grandmother sewed mens suits and sewed for everyone in town. Alma and her husband Esmond had a sheep farm near Bluffton, Ohio but later moved into town.

My Mom says that Alma got up very early everyday and made several pies before everyone else was up.

OBITUARY:

DANVILLE - Mrs. E. Gertrude Price, 80 of Danville, Boone County, died Saturday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Betty Ekey of Richmond, Va.

Mrs. Price was a retired schoolteacher and a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at St. Albans, the Eastern Star, and Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

Also surviving: brother William Gatewood of Chicago, Ill.;  two grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hunter-Hunter Funeral Home, Madison.  Burial will be in Boone Memorial Park, Madison.  Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
