Samuel J. Branham, 88, of Madison, died yesterday at his home following a short illness.

He was a retired C&O Railway conductor and a member of the Madison Methodist Church. He was also belonged to the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.

Surviving: daughters, Mrs. Carra Kay of Charleston and Mrs. Merl H Ribbetoe of Madison; half-brothers, Alney Hall of Ramage, Allard Hall of Morehead, Ky., and Dennis Hall of Ohio; half-sisters, Mrs. Fannie Mullins and Mrs. Minnie Hall of California; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.n. at Hunter and Hunter Funeral Home here. The Rev. Robert P. Johnson will officiate and burial will be in Boone Memorial Park.

MADISON, Feb 12 - Mrs. Vergie Alice Williams, 67, of Foster Boon County, died at the home of James Miller today.

Surviving are her husband Haze Williams: a son, Howard of Foster; three daughters, Mrs. Elmer Buzzard of Wevaco; Mrs. Elmer Eden of Bucyers, O., and Mrs. George Quesinberry of Carbon; one sister Mrs. Sam Hampton of Geneva Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Church of Christ at Foster with Evangelist Vernon Mullins officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery at Foster.

The body will be taken form the Hunter and Hunter Mortuary to the home of Mrs. James Adkins at Foster at 2 p.m. tomorrow. (Tuesday).

MADISON, April 16 - A Heart attack suffered while plowing Monday near his home at Foster killed 77-year-old Hayes Williams.  The victim was a retired Coal miner.

Surviving are one son, Howard of Drawdy; ; three daughters, Mrs. George Quesinberry of Carbon; Mrs. Elmer Buzzard of Wevaco; and Mrs. Elmer Eaden of Bucyers, O.; 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Henry of Foster, Jess of Bloomingrose and John of Ripley; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Green of Davis Creek and Mrs. Sara Shackleford of Fairmont.

Charleston Gazette, Monday, March 25, 1957 J. H. Perdue, Danville, Dies:

Jesse H. Perdue, 63, of Danville, Boone County, died yesterday in Charleston Memorial Hospital after a long illness.  He is a brother-in-law of Dell White, Boone County sheriff and former member of the State Board of Control.  Mr. Perdue was a former supervisor with the State Road Commission in Boone County.

SURVIVING are his wife Mrs. Elsie White Perdue; seven daughters, Mrs. Glena Thompson of Belle, Mrs Virginia Finley and Miss Ardeth Perdue, both of Huntington, Mrs Sylvia Hale of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs Betty Jo Darnell of Charleston, Mrs Avenelle Trautmann of Pittsburgh, Pa., and, Mrs. Bertha Jane Easter of Ft. Campbell, Ky.  Three sons, Glen and Charley, both of Manila, and Carl of Huntington; a sister, Mrs. Lula Bell of Chapmanville; two brothers; Lennie of Ottawa and Hassel of Chapmanville, and 16 grandchildren.

Service will be at 2 p.. m. tomorrow in Hunter and Hunter mortuary chapel at Madison, with Clinton Looney and J. W. Workman officiating.  Burial will be in Workman Cemetery on Big Creek.

OTTAWA - Mrs. Nellie Hall, 74, of Ottawa, Boone County, died Sunday in Boone Memorial Hospital, Madison.

Surviving: husband Lennie Perdue; sons, Kenneth of Olnesled Falls, Ohio, Jack and Pete Perdue of Ottawa, and Harold Perdue of Baltimore, Md.; daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Burton of Ottawa, Mrs. Delores O'Stroske of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Ann Smarr of Madison and Mrs. Carolyn Fernandez of Mount Clemens, Mich.

Service will be held Wednesday be at 2 p.m. in Handley Funeral Home Chapel at Danville with Rev. Emil Parker in charge.  Burial will be in Boone Memorial Park at Madison.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Ronald W. Fisher officiating.   Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.   Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Flora Ann Curry, 99, of Danville, Boone County, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, after an extended illness.

Born Aug. 14, 1908, in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Margie Johnson Sanders.  Mrs. Curry was also preceded in death by her husband, Benny R. "Jum" Curry, and by one son, Raymond R. Curry.

Flora was a homemaker, a former store clerk and a member of Danville Church of Christ.

Mrs. Curry is survived by one son, Astor L. Curry of Danville.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Stevens Funeral Home, Madison, with Minister Kenneth Mitchell officiating.  Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Sallie Jane Hale, 90, of Chapmanville, was born August 9, 1915, at Manila, a daughter of the late Van and Bertha Bell Hill.  She departed this life Friday, May 19, 2006, at her residence.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, R. Kermit "Red" Hale in 1979; one daughter, Jeanette Hale Ellison; two sisters, Tressie Aleshire and Claudia Hill; three brothers, Kyle, Hershel and Virgil Hill, and one son-in-law, Olaf Mason Conley in 2005.

Mrs. Hale was a homemaker, a 1933 graduate of Chapmanville High School, a former substitute teacher, for many years the area chairperson for the American Red Cross Blood Drive, and a member of the Manila Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Hale Conley of Chapmanville; one son, H. David (Brenda) Hale of Louisville, Ky.; one sister, Mildred (Paris) Stephens of Poca, and two grandchildren, David Jason (Ann) Hale and Sarah Elizabeth (David) Rueff, and four great-grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Hale, John David Hale, Hannah Elizabeth Rueff and Jackson David Rueff, all of Louisville.

Services wil be conducted at 2 p.m. today, May 21, at the Evans Funeral Home in Chapmanville with Mr. Jim Owston, minister, officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Pallbearers will be David Jason Hale, David Rueff, Tilden Bell, Gary Bell, Mike Tiller, Charles Aleshire, Larry Myers and Charles Carter.

Paris Stephens, 90, of Poca passed away Monday, July 8.  The Lord received a faithful servant in Paris, who exemplified a strong Christian man in both values and service.  Born September 14, 1922, in Mud Fork to Alec and Anna Kirk Stephens, he was raised in Logan County.

Paris married the former Mildred Hill of Garrett Fork on November 20, 1942, and left the next morning for boot camp.  Although the newlyweds did not see each other again for four years, time and distance could not separate them.  They celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2012.  Paris was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and proudly served in World War II from 1942 to 1946.  During this time he was stationed on the islands of Saipan and Samoa, in Okinawa, Japan and Tientsin, China with the 7th Field Depot.  He loved to talk about his time in the service, and excerpts from these stories were recently published in "Common Valor" by Eric Douglas.

He worked for FMC Ordinance Plant in South Charleston before becoming a real estate developer and broker with his own agency, Paris Stephens and Associates, where he was instrumental in developing the Forest Park subdivision in Poca.  Paris was a member of Gateway Christian Church in St. Albans.  He had previously served as an elder at Teays Valley Christian Church and Tyler Mountain Church of Christ.  He was a Sunday school teacher for many years and received some of his greatest joy from sharing the gospel with others.  Paris was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the bounty of his harvest with friends and family.  He was also an accomplished wood craftsman and oil painter.  Paris will be remembered by friends and family as a man who always had a smile on his face and a story to tell.  His positive attitude, long marriage and strong Christian values were an inspiration to many.

Paris was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Paris, Jr.; brothers, Audley, Eddie, Emory and Willie; and sister, Mary Olive.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mildred; daughter and son-in-law, LaMarr and Larry Myers of Poca; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Emily and Matt Duke of Cross Lanes; brother and sister-in-law, O.R. and Delores Stephens of Madison; sister, Mack Leighton of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Evans Funeral Home, Chapmanville, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. with interment following at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the church of your choice are encouraged.  Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Chapmanville, is in charge of arrangements.
