Walter Alan Hopkins, formerly of Cranford, now a resident of Bluefield, W.Va., was recent graduate of Anderson - Broaddus College, Philippi, W.Va.  He received a B.A. degree in the field of social science.  He has been awarded a tuition scholarship for graduate study in the field of social disorganization.

Just prior to graduation, Mr. Hopkins participated in the annual Honors Convocation at which he received the Wall Street Journal Award for having the highest average in the social science division.  In addition, as the only two-year member of the Silver Key, the college honor society, he was privileged to participate in the "tapping" ceremony for initiation of new members.

Gordon Thayer Ikner Jr., of Scottsdale, Ariz., died from an allergic reaction to an antibiotic Aug. 21, 2004.

Born March 2, 1945, in Charleston, he was the son of the late Gordon Thayer and Mary Fenimore Ikner.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife, Dr. Cynthia Lewis Ikner Kish.

A graduate of Morris Harvey College and West Virginia University College of Law, Mr. Ikner practiced law in both Madison and Lewisburg, W.Va.  Prior to his death, he was employed by Scott E. Richardson and Associates, Attorneys at Law in Scottsdale, where he had recently moved in order to be near his sons.  He attended St. Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his sons, Gordon Ikner III and John Ikner, both of Prescott, Ariz., Charles Ikner of Albuquerque, N.M., and James Ikner of Buffalo, N.Y.; his sister, Bronwyn Ikner White of Warrenton, Va.; his uncle and aunt, James and Joanna Fenimore of North Augusta, S.C.; his nephew, Brad White of Blacksburg, Va.; and his niece, Elizabeth White of Kalispell, Mont.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Madison Baptist Church, Madison, W.Va.  A private interment will take place after the service.
