Mrs. Moore was born in Madison, W.Va., and lived in Fort Worth for 40 years.

She earned a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and did graduate work at the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque and North Texas State University.

She retired in 1982.

The family suggests that memorials be made to VITAS Hospice.

Kirtley E. Moore, 93, resident of Town Village Retirement Home, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013.  Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Arlington Funeral Home.  Private interment.

Kirt will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his great sense of humor and a gracious attitude toward friends whether new or old.

He had a deep, enduring and dedicated love for his family, wife, Betty; daughter, Greer Georgeann; and son, Kelly.

Born in Sumerco, W.Va., on Sept. 2, 1919, Kirt lived in that state until the early '50s.  He and wife, Betty, left Madison, W.Va., to come to Waco, where they both earned bachelor degrees in education from Baylor University.  Upon graduation, Kirt moved his family to Fort Worth where he and Betty taught for many years.  Betty taught at Paschal High School.  Kirt taught at Forest Oak Junior High School then went to O.D. Wyatt High School when it first opened.  Kirt received his master's degree in May 1962.  After retiring they enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Kirt was preceded in death by wife, Betty; his parents, Hubert and Corna Moore; sisters, Adeline and Geneva; and brother, Lindy.

Survivors: Daughter, Greer Georgeann; son, Kelly Moore; granddaughter, Dawn; great-grandsons, Daniel and Thomas; brothers, Guy Moore Sr. of Arlington and Bob Moore of Kannapolis, N.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was a retired coal miner and a retired route salesman for Betsey Ross, Charleston.  He was a member of the UMW and the Porter Fork Baptist Church, Yawkey, where he served as church clerk and deacon.  He was a member of the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 and attended Hilltop Baptist Church, South Charleston. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving: daughters, Brenda Hudson of Hurricane, Beverly Johnson of Yawkey; brother, Jimmy Woodrum of Spring Hill; three grandchildren.

He was a Christian and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, South Charleston, where he served as an usher. He was a Korean War veteran, a retired employee of Frito-Lay Company and a life member and past president of the FOP Lodge, South Charleston.

James was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and had volunteered many hours with Little League sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Glenna Woodrum; sister, Wanoka Woodrum; and brother, Don Woodrum.

He is survived by his wife, Marvella; two sons and their wives, James "Woody" and Karen Woodrum and Craig and Gina Woodrum; one daughter and her husband, Cynda and Gene Workman; three sisters-in-law, Jean Bays, Phyllis Sheets and Cathy Thornton; and seven grandchildren, Martha, Brandon, Angela, Zachary, Gene, Nicholas and Jamie.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 3, at First Church of the Nazarene, Kentucky and Walnut Streets, South Charleston, with Pastors Kent Estep and Merlin Provance officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, with military graveside rites conducted by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768.

WALTERBORO, SC - Mrs. Loretta Rose Schmitt, 66, of 1384 Possum Corner Road, Walterboro, entered into her state of eternal rest Saturday afternoon, March 27, 2010, at her residence under the care of Odyssey Hospice following an extended illness.  Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, March 30, 2010, from the graveside in Green Pond Baptist Church Cemetery, 12317 Green Pond Highway, Green Pond with The Reverend James W. Williams, Jr. officiating.  The family will receive friends following the committal ceremony in the fellowship hall of Green Pond Church.

Mrs. Schmitt was born May 6, 1943, in Dyesville, Ohio and was a daughter of the late Chester Price and the late Elsie Woodrum Price.

She was a devoted housewife and was the purchasing agent for Cheehaw-Combee Plantation at Green Pond.

She was an active member of Green Pond Baptist Church where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir for nearly thirty years and was a member and past secretary for the Women's Missionary Union of the church.

Loretta's home was her joy in life and the work she accomplished there along with the love and support she gave to her family and friends was what made her special.

Surviving are: her husband, Mr. Lawrence Frederick "Larry" Schmitt;  a son, Aaron Stansbury and his wife Cheryl of Summerville;  two daughters, Reba Hanna and her husband Dale of Walterboro and Tammy Rourk and her husband Michael of Round O;  and two sisters, Betty Throckmorton of Charleston and Laura Hutchison of North Charleston.  There are six grandchildren and one great-grandchild that also survives.

She is survived by her husband, James L. Griffis Sr.; son, James L. Griffis II and wife, Inga of Racine, W.Va.; daughters, Victoria Josette Griffis of Valdese, Amanda Mary Frances Griffis and Kimberly Renee Adkins, both of Morganton, and Misty Ann Biggerstaff of Valdese; mother, Mary Frances Cremeans of Danville, Va.; grandchildren, Rebecca Ashton Dillon, David Matthew Dillon, James L. Griffis III, Amelia Ashton Griffis, Caleb Marshall Griffis, Courtney Jane Webb, Jonathan O'Brien Edwards and Zachary Biggerstaff.

Services for Mrs. Griffis will be held at 2 p.m. today, at Kirksey Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Todd Phillips presiding.  Interment will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The services are under the direction of Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton.

James William "Billy" Hall, 84, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, after a long illness.

Born Sept. 8, 1917, at Ramage in Boone County, he was the son of the late Archie and Pearl Ball Hall.

Mr. Hall was a World War II Army veteran.  He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Union Carbide in South Charleston, with 48 years of service.

He was preceded in death by:  a sister, Louise Williams;  three brothers, Howard Ray Hall, Archie Hall, Jr., and Frankie Hall.

Graveside service and burial were held Aug. 26, at the Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, where the Rev. Earl Akers officiated.

George was a World War II veteran and was retired from Union Carbide with 41 years of service.  He was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ, St. Albans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Pearl Hall of Ramage;  one sister;  and four brothers.

George is survived by his wife of 56 years, Reba;  his daughters, Marilyn Lytton and Terrie Thompson, both of St. Albans, Vida Suzanne Hall of Jacksonville, Fla.;  nine grandchildren;  seven great-grandchildren;  three sisters;  and one brother.

George was surrounded by love and will be sadly missed.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Ave., St. Albans, with Bill Williams officiating.  Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

LILLIAN REYNOLDS, 77, of Huntington, W.Va., widow of Buzzie M. "Bud" Reynolds, passed away Monday, August 18, 2008, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Ken Toler, with burial to follow at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington.

She was born April 18, 1931, in Boone County, West Virginia, to the late Archie Gray and Pearl C. Ball Hall.  She was a homemaker.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Jean Reynolds;  five brothers, William, Park, Ray, Archie II and Frankie Hall;  and two sisters, Louise Williams and Helen Ball.

She is survived by two sons and spouses, James M. and Debbie Reynolds and Bobby E. and Lisa Reynolds, both of Proctorville, Ohio;  two daughters and a spouse, Nancy and Rocky Stone of Lavalette, W.Va., and Sharon Johnson of Huntington;  seven grandchildren, Todd Clay of Arizona, Scott Clay of Lavalette, Laura and Skyler Bartram of Kenova, W.Va., Andy and Kama Reynolds of Barboursville, W.Va., Samantha Reynolds and her fiancé Andrew Taylor of Barboursville, Kaitlyn Johnson and Heath Stone, both of Huntington;  four great-grandchildren, Alex Daeng, Keelie Reynolds, Anna Marrie Taylor and Hannah Stone; two brothers, Johnny and Sue Hall and Archie G. He was born November 5, 1929, in Logan County, W.Va., a son of the late Thomas and Pansy Brumfield Reynolds.  He was a corporal in the US Army, having served during the Korean War as a Military Police, he also trained with the 82nd Airborne Unit at Ft. Bragg, N.C., where he was a paratrooper and he was a member of the American Legion Post 200.  "Bud" retired from Owens Illinois after 39 years of service  He was Baptist by faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Reynolds;  a brother, Thomas Reynold, Jr.;  and a sister, Margie Hutchinson.

Born Aug. 6, 1941, at Ramage, she was the daughter of the late Archie G. and Pearl C. Ball Hall. Mrs. Ball was also preceded in death by her daughter, Trina Gail Shelton; brothers, Billy, Park, Archie Jr., Ray, Frankie and Jackie Hall; and sister, Louise Williams.

Helen was a Christian, a homemaker and a former manager of H&C Discount Furniture.

Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Ball of Six Mile; sons, Larry Shelton of Six Mile and Timothy R. Shelton of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; stepsons, Roger L. Ball of Louisville, Ky., and Gary A. Ball of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, Johnny Hall of Cape Coral, Fla.; sisters, Lillian Reynolds of Huntington and Emogene Borders of Coal Grove, Ohio; a niece whom he loved as a daughter, Sherry Hall of Alderson; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

JOHN CLIFTON CHAPMAN, 89, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away on Friday, December 5, 2008, at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Jerry Chapman officiating.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Huntington.

He was born February 26, 1919, in Huntington, a son of the late Alric "Lon" and Letha May Clay Chapman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Cook and Theda James and two brothers, Alric "Ross" Chapman and Robert "Bobby" Chapman.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy. He was retired from West Virginia Steel with 42 years of service. He was a member of VFW Post 9738, whose members will conduct military graveside rites.  He was a lifelong resident of Huntington and was an avid Marshall University fan.  John was a very patient, kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sylvia Faye Richmond Chapman;  a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Roger Knight of Bluffton, S.C.;  granddaughter Teresa Fuller Kenton and her husband Bobby;  two great-grandsons, Timothy and Nicholas D'Orazio, all of Lilburn, Ga.;  a sister, Nada Booth;  two brothers, Billy "Bill" Chapman and Jerry Chapman; several nieces and nephews,  and three special caregivers, Hope Wolfe, Mick Cremeans and brother-in-law, Earl Richmond.

Nina Lou Richmond Spears, 82, of Hurricane went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2005.  She died at the home of her daughter, Marsha Weaver and was surrounded by her loving daughters and son-in-law.

She was born on Nov. 24, 1922, in Milton.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Hinton and Bessie Richmond;  brothers, Junior and Charles Richmond;  sweet daughter, Debbie Spears Egnor;  and precious grandson, Joseph Allen Weaver.

Survivors include siblings, Earl Richmond and Sylvia Chapman.  Nina and her loving husband, the late Rev. Charles Spears of 53 years, surviving children are four daughters, Brenda Burns of St. Cloud, Fla., Marsha Weaver of Hamlin, Jane Hanson of Cross Lanes, and Betty Chapman of Leon;  and six sons, Charles "Bo" of Norman, Ok., John of Winfield, David of St. Cloud, Fla., Terry of Barboursville, Samuel of Hurricane, and Paul of Wayne.  Her sons-in-law include Ernie Burns, Jerry Weaver, Walt Hanson, and Frank Chapman;  and a special loving daughter-in-law, Debbie Triplett Spears.  She is survived also by 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends, including her very special friend, Jerri Barrett, her caregiver and friend, Sandra Jeffrey and all her friends at the Senior Citizens Center at Hurricane and Fruth Pharmacy, Hurricane.

Special thanks and appreciation is extended to Brenda Bassett, RN and the nurses of Hospice of Huntington.

Nina's special hobby was photography.

She was a homemaker and owner/operator of the campus grill, "The Drag", in St. Albans from 1964-70.  She was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Lloyd and Bessie Nichols Austin; sister, Eunice Swann.

Surviving: husband, Earl C. Richmond;  daughter, Kayla Hoover of Poca;  sons, Karl Richmond of Greensboro, N.C., Michael Richmond of Fairfax, Va.;  sister, Arretta Cheatham of Huntington;  brothers, Harold Austin of Culloden, Roger Austin of Staunton, Va.;  six grandchildren;  seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial were held Tuesday, Oct. 9th at Teays Hill Cemetery, St. Albans, with the Rev. Dr. Joe Hyde officiating.

Hinton "Jarfly" Richmond, of Huntington, loving husband of Emma Jean Richmond, departed this life on April 28, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born November 26, 1926 in Milton W.Va., the son of the late Hinton and Bessie Ball Richmond.  He was retired from Blenko Glass Company with 48 years of service as a glass blower and Plant Manager.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Emma Jean Richmond, also three children, a son Jerry "Tony" Anthony Richmond of Huntington, a daughter Jean Allison McClure and her husband Bruce McClure of Louisville, Ky, and another son, Bruce Hinton Richmond of Shelbyville, Ky.  In addition he has four surviving grandchildren whom he loved very much.  Jennifer Ann Richmond of Huntington, Michael Bruce McClure and Matthew Richmond McClure of Louisville, Ky., Emma Catherine Richmond of Shelbyville, Ky., and a very special little friend Rayse Harris of Owensboro, Ky.

He was a member of American Legion Post 177 and a WorId War II veteran serving in the Pacific with the U.S. Army.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, with the Rev. Greg Creasy officiating.

BLENKO - The People - Hinton 'Jarfly' Richmond;   Richard Blenko - CEO at Blenko Glass wrote the following about Hinton " Jarfly" Richmond:

Jarfly Richmond came to work before WWII and joined the Army and was stationed overseas in Japan as a cook.  He was 5'7'' tall and weighed about 230 pounds.  He was one of the best glass blowers in Blenko's history and enormously strong, which helps in manipulating glass.  No task was too heavy, too complicated for Jarfly.  He also had strong work ethic peculiar to the pre and post war employees.  It was an earlier time of surviving the war and hard living and drinking.  No matter how late the night was the day before, these fellows always came to work on time and performed.  Jar was part of this group that was very intelligent and highly skilled.  To have someone produce more glass than you was an affront to their abilities.  No one could outwork Jar or work harder in his blowing skills.  He was a good problem solver and worked with all the Blenko designers from 1947 to his retirement in the late 1980s.  I used to spend hours talking with Jar in his office and always found him to be a confidant and father figure: when there were personal problems; he was a perveyor of sound advice and always supportive.  When he left Blenko, we were never quite the same and the end of an era.  He was a bulldog of man and in fear of no one or in awe or wealth or skill; he often told me, he came into this world with nothing and there was nothing he wanted or needed.  As men of this era were, he was a dapper dresser with wavy hair and a soft voice which belied his enormous physical strength; he had an infectious smile.  When he died I lost a friend, a collaborator and the type of fellow that will not be seen again.

Evan L. Forbis, 82, of Rt. 3, Leon, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator for the City of Columbus, Ohio, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Born Nov. 30, 1912 in Arbuckle, Mason County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rhoda (Scantlin) Forbis.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Evan Forbis, Jr.

Donald retired from Tag Galyean-Team Chevrolet of Charleston in 1993, where he worked in the body shop for 47 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, where he served four years on the USS LST 532 during the Korean War.

Donald was also a member and former Sunday schoolteacher at the West Virginia Home Mission. His wife of 50 years, Lena "Tootsie" Lucas Jarrett preceded him in death on June 21, 2003.

Surviving daughter, Vickie Gwilt and son-in-law, John Gwilt III, of Niles, Ohio; son, Kevin Jarrett and daughter-in-law, Leisa Jarrett, of Clemmons, N.C.; five grandchildren, John, Todd, Rachel, Jennifer, and Andrew; two great-granddaughters, Katrina and Luca; and brothers, Dexter Jarrett of Charleston, and Harold Dean Nelson of Ashland, Ky.

Service will be Monday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Cooke Funeral Home, 2002 20th St., Nitro, with the Rev. Harold Harmon officiating. Burial will follow the service in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House, with military graveside rites.
