She was born March 19, 1932, and was a daughter of the late Denny and Chatty Chambers.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Edward Nelson; and one son, Rodney Edward Nelson.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Spencer United Methodist Church, Hewett.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandy (Hobert) Conley of Ripley, Kaye (Jerry) Cook of Blair, Lou (Freddy) Terral of Bob White, Dee (Rodney) Thurmond of Wharton and Ashley McGuire of Wharton; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandsons; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Edgar Chambers of Greenview and Arvin Chambers and Jimmy Chambers, both of Hewett; one sister, Dora Brancato of Michigan; and a host of friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev. Roger McCauley and Earl Akers officiating.  Burial will follow in Elkins Cemetery, Hewett.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville.

He was born February 3, 1931, at Ameagle, the son of the late Elmer and Mary Vivian Clark Felty. Mr. Felty was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Avonale Chambers Felty; sister, Eula Mae Sturgell; and brothers, Raymond and Clarence Felty.

Lewis was a former employee of Ford Motor Company, an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Spencer Chapel United Methodist Church, Hewett.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Edgar of Greenview; daughters, Susan Adkins of Danville and Gail Miles of Charleston; sister, Brenda Miller of Florida; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at Stevens Funeral Home, Madison, with Roger McCauley officiating.  Burial will follow in Elkins Cemetery, Hewett.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 2, at Memory Gardens, Madison, with Minister Richard Runyon officiating.

In accordance with Mrs. Easter's wishes, there will be no visitation.

Lawrence Greene - Orangeburg:

Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence Greene, 91, of 1847 Murph Mill Road, Orangeburg, will be held 11 a.m., Friday, February 8, 2008, at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest Medlin officiating.  Burial will take place in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers are Richard Ong, Kevin Bell, Eddie Sweatman, Andy Thompson, Dan Oliver, Ricky Kinder and Mickey Kinder.

Mr. Greene died Tuesday morning, February 5, 2008 at the Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Greene was born in Uneeda, W.Va., a son of the late John Greene and Myrtle Price.  He was a retired coal miner from Boone County Coal Company, W.Va. He later retired from Roper Corporation of Orangeburg.  Mr. Greene was an avid golfer and gardener.  He attended Faith Baptist Church.  Mr. Greene was predeceased by four brothers Wilburn, Wilson, Theron and Burlie Greene and two sisters Nanny Brown and Nellie Harrison.

Survivors are wife, Barbara Bell Greene of the home; daughters, Glenna G. (Jackie) Chambers of Covington, Va., Marian G. (Kermit) Kinder of Charleston, WV, Sharon G. (Roger) Weaver, Madison, W.Va.; two sons, Anthony Dwayne Bell of the home, Kevin D. Bell (Darlene) of St. Matthews; sister, Bertha G. (Slegell) Cantebury of Madison, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren including a special grandson Devin Lawrence Bell of St. Matthews; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Thursday evening, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home and at other times friends may call at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 7618 Columbia Road, St. Matthews, SC 29135.

Seigel Canterbury 97 of Madison WV passed away Jan. 2l, 2009 at his home.

He was a retired coal miner with Armco, was a member Church of Christ, Madison, 60 year member UMWA, and was with the CCC ( Civilian Conservation Corp).

He was the son of the late Dee and Bell Miller Canterbury.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years Bertha; sons; Freddie and his wife Jane Canterbury and Johnny and his wife Teresa Canterbury all of Madison; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville for their care.

Funeral service will be 2pm Saturday, Jan. 24, Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with Ministers Ray Reynolds and Floyd Maynard officiating.  Burial will follow at Memory Gardens, Madison.

Betty (Martin) Gillenwater, age 82, of Madison, died of an apparent heart attack on Wednesday, October 1, 2008.

She was preceded in death three months ago by her husband of 63 years, Arthur Gillenwater.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, Joe "Speed" Martin and Marie Martin Butcher; and one brother, Bobby Paul Martin.

She is survived by her brother, Reggie Martin of Madison; sons, Bill Gillenwater and wife, Bonnie of Woodville, Roger Gillenwater and wife, Donna, of Madison; daughter, Claudia Greear and husband, Kyle of Brunswick, Ohio; grandchildren, Lisa Marr and Stacia Rowe of Brunswick, Ohio, Michelle Szkolnik of Canastota, New York, Erica White of Madison, Jonathan Gillenwater of Holden, Stephen Gillenwater of Martinsburg, Gregory Gillenwater of Danville, and Abbey Hunter of Woodville; aunt and sister-in-law, Lorraine Gillenwater of Madison; and special cousins, Jo Ann Harmon and Sylvia Clark of Madison, and Corky Debusk of Gray, Tennessee.  She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Obituary - Arthur Gillenwater:

Arthur Gillenwater, age 88, of Madison, died peacefully at home after a short illness on Wednesday, June 18, 2008.

He was born on January 6, 1920 on Laurel Fork in Lincoln County.

Arthur served in the Army during World War II as a sharp shooter and was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat.  He retired from DuPont in Belle, West Virginia after twenty-nine years of service.  He was a faithful member of the Morning Star House of Prayer in Ridgeview for over twenty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Edna (Curry) Gillenwater, as well as all ten of his brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Betty Gillenwater; sons, Bill Gillenwater and wife, Bonnie of Woodville, Roger Gillenwater and wife, Donna of Madison; daughter, Claudia Greear and husband, Kyle of Brunswick, Ohio; grandchildren, Lisa Marr and Stacia Rowe of Brunswick, Ohio, Michelle Szkolnik of Canastota, New York, Erica White of Madison, Jonathan Gillenwater of Holden, Stephen Gillenwater of Martinsburg, Gregory Gillenwater of Danville, and Abbey Hunter of Woodville.  He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Arthur was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral service will be at 2 pm Saturday, June 21, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with his special nephew and caregiver, the Rev. Lowell Fitzwater officiating.  Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Troy Lee Haspel, age 60, passed away peacefully at home at noon on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at his residence.

Born in 1947 in Charleston, WV, he had resided-in Fernandina Beach since 1978.  After graduating from Sherman High School, Class of 1964 in Seth, WV, he attended and graduated from the Nashville Auto-Diesel College, Nashville, TN.  He then completed a five year apprenticeship and was a member of the Steamfitters Local #602 in Washington, D.C.  Troy served proudly in the U.S: Army as an R.T.O. with the 4th Infantry, 2nd and 35th during the Vietnam War for which he-received a Purple Heart.  In 1970, he married Cathie Lewis and upon their moving to Fernandina Beach in 1978, he opened, owned and operated Haspel's Welding until retiring in 1999.  He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of Nassau County, the Amelia Lodge No. 47, F & AM and was Presbyterian by faith.  His sense of humor and personality made everyone-smile.  He always had a joke to tell.  Many have, said, "he never met a stranger." He loved his family, life, and the feel of the open road on his Harley.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lee Roy Haspel.

He leaves behind his; wife, Cathie L. Haspel, Fernandina Beach, FL; sons, Lee, Nashville, TN, Roy, Fernandina Beach, FL; daughter, Sallie: and her husband Damon, Jacksonville Beach, FL; his mother, Jewell Skinner, Joe's Creek, WV; brother, Robert Haspel (Cindy); Laurel, MD; sisters, Ann Carney (Tim), Joe's Creek, WV, Patricia Eskins (Roger), Seth, WV, and his: constant companion, his cat Kittie Davis.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 5, 2007 in the Burgess Chapel with Reverend Tom Black officiating.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Vietnam Veterans of Nassau County.  Troy will be laid to rest at a later date in the National Veteran's Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL upon its completion.  The family invites guests and friends to visit from 5:00-7:00 on Thursday at the funeral home.

Katherine "Kitty" Mullins Tierno of Madison, after a courageous battle with cancer, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 13, 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Lena Price Mullins;  and a brother, Tom Ed Mullins.

She was a civilian employee of the West Virginia State Police for 36 years and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Teresa Tierno Partin and husband, Charles, of Houston, Texas;  two sons, Carl Tierno Jr. of California and Dominic "Nick" Tierno of Florida;  two sisters, Sylvia Clark and Jo Ann Harmon and brother-in-law, Robert Harmon, all of Madison;  five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be noon Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev. James E. O'Connor officiating.  Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and again on Tuesday, two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

After the burial, a reception will be held at the Madison Baptist Church, Madison, hosted by St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Madison Baptist Church ladies.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madison, WV 25130.
