GENEVIA LAUGHERY

Genevia Laughery, 62, of 623 E. Patit Street died last Friday, February 13 at Dayton General Hospital.

She ws (sic) born in Wallowa County, Oregon on June 28, 1918 to Fannie and Ellery Walls.   Her family moved to Dayton when she was an infant and she attended Dayton schools where she graduated in 1937.

She was married on July 26, 1937 to her high school sweetheart George D. "Deb" Laughery in Dayton.

Genevia worked for the Jess Courtney Farms, seasonally for Green Giant, and for Seattle First Bank since 1947.

She was a member of the Christian Church, a charter member of the Dayton Eagles Auxiliary, the Dayton Golf and Country Club, the Lady Elks of Walla Walla and the National Association of Bankers.

Genevia was preceeded in death by her parents and two brothers.   She is survived by her husband at the family's home; one son, Delbert Laughery of Dayton; a newphew (sic) R. Jerry Laughery of Yakima, who was raised as a son; grandchildren Delbert Laughery, who is serving in the U.S. Navy; Kris Laughery of Dayton; Kyle and Melissa Laughery of Yakima; and several nephews and neices (sic).

Funeral services were held Monday, at Dayton City Cemetery.   The Rev. Gregory Bye officiated.

Warren E. “Hen” Stegall, 78, of R. Rt. Abingdon, died at 5:58 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born Aug. 23, 1922 in Knox County, the son of Asa and Nellie Flack Stegall.   He married Dorothy Morse on Dec. 25, 1946 in Abingdon.   She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Gary Stegall and Dan Stegall, both of Abingdon and Terry Stegall, of Arrowsmith; one brother, Burdette Stegall, RR Abingdon and five grandchildren, Matt Stegall, Braden Stegall and Bailey Stegall all of Abingdon and Royce Stegall and Michael Stegall both of Arrowsmith.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He lived near Abingdon all of his life where he graduated from Abingdon High School in 1940.

He was a lifetime farmer and also a heavy equipment operator for Bloomfield Construction in Aledo, where he retired from in 1992.   He also plowed snow for Cedar & Indian Point Townships for many years.

He was baptized in the Abingdon Christian Church and attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Abingdon.

He was a charter member and past president of the former Abingdon Boat Club.

He owned and operated Kamperstowne Camp Ground near Abingdon for many years.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with Rev. N. Annette Faull and Mrs. Eleanor Landon officiating.

Burial was in the Abingdon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, Galesburg Cottage Hospital Oncology Department or American Cancer Society
