Orin Henning was the youngest of 5 children born to John and Sarah Henning.  He born June 17, 1987 east of Loraine Ill.  At age 5, his folks bought a farm near Big Neck.  Also at age 5, his folks gave him a colt, which grew into a wonderful horse [named Star].  He entered Stall Rural School at age 6 and continued thru the 8th Grade.  He worked on the farm at home and also helped his rural neighbors with farm work, especially helping Bill Witt about a year in moving cattle.  During World War I, he and his buddy Geo. Nelson enlisted in the Navy.  He was on the warship Ohio and made 2 or 3 trips overseas for return of G.I.s.  He was home to help with spring farm work and later came to Galesburg and hired out on the C B & Q railroad on freight between Galesburg and Chicago.

He was laid off during the depression and fired boilers at Meadow Gold Creamery and later Knox College heating plant.  Orin was called back on the railroad.

We were married in Quincy May 14, 1921.   We had 2 girls:  Helen Hazel born June 3, 1922;  and Anna Vivian born Aug 26, 1923.  We moved to Galesburg Nov 11, 1922.   Our 1st home was 1083 N Seminary [downstairs of home, owner Mr Kuhl lived upstairs], and later bought a 5 room cottage at 927 S. Kellogg, and later a larger house at 725 Day Street where we lived 58 years.   He passed away Apr 29, 1986.
