This Henning family documentation is dedicated to Myra Evans Johnson whose compilation of family reunions between 1930 and 1933 provided the foundation of this effort. Her introduction in 1988 starts —
The early Henning family came to Adams County from the old country (Germany) in the year 1836. The father and mother had with them seven children, the youngest, Henrietta, who was about six years old at the time. Following is the information compiled at the reunions between 1930 and 1933:

The early Henning family came to Adams County from the old country (Germany) in the year 1836. The father and mother had with them seven children, the youngest, Henrietta, who was about six years old at the time. Following is the information compiled at the reunions between 1930 and 1933:
Henry Henning, who had lived in Gilmer Township many years, passed away. Henry Henning died at his late residence in Gilmer Township Sunday Evening, Dec. 20 after an illness of five days with pneumonia and pleurisy. He was one of the pioneers of Adams County and was widely known and respected.
Mr. Henning was born Oct. 24, 1830 near Muehlhausen, Germany. At the age of 6 he came to America, coming directly to Quincy. He had been a resident of Gilmer Township since. At the age of 25, Mr. Henning was married to Miss Liza Pitle. (Other sources show her name as Elizabeth Beutel, Eliza, and Bendel). Three sons and three daughters survive. They are: John A. Henning of Loraine, Mrs. J.B. Rutledge, Mrs. W.H. Michels, and George Henning, of Camp Point, Gus A. Henning of Chatten, and Mrs. J.L. Smith of Quincy. Services were held at the German M.E. Church at 11.00 A.M. yesterday.
Mrs. Henry Henning of Gilmer Township survived her aged husband just five days. Mrs. Elizabeth Henning (nee Beutel) was born near Muehlhausen, Germany March 26, 1835 and died of pneumonia Dec. 26, 1903. Mrs. Henning came to America with her parents at the age of seven years. They took up abode in Quincy and later lived in Gilmer Township. She married Henry Henning Nov. 15, 1855. She was the Mother of 8 children, six of whom survive. They are: John A. Henning of Loraine, Mrs. J. B. Rutledge, Mrs. W. H. Michel, and George Henning of Camp Point. Gus A. Henning of Chatten, and Mrs. J.L. Smith of Quincy. She was member of the M.E. church at Columbus.
