Evan W. Heins age 72 of Camp Point, Illinois died at 1:55 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 at Timber Point Healthcare Center, Camp Point.

Born October 10, 1939, in Quincy, Illinois, Evan was a son of Harold & Reva Evans Heins.

Evan was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Camp Point and was a member of the Adams County Old Tyme Association.  He enjoyed showing his steam engine and WD 9 tractor.  He also enjoyed going to festivals, antiquing, and Old Tyme Days with area schools at the Adams County Fairgrounds.  Evan was an avid sports fan and always supported the local sporting events in the community.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include three daughters: Karen Bilgri (John) of Quincy, Kathy Gronewold (Noel) of Golden, Illinois, Krista Davis (Paul) of Camp Point;  Seven grandchildren: Matthew, Andrew & Rachel Bilgri of Quincy, Emery & Eli Gronewold of Golden, Brendan & John Davis of Camp Point;  A special friend: Joan McCool of Mt. Sterling, Illinois;  Three brothers: Melvin Heins (Barb) of LaBelle, Missouri, Gene Heins (Marilyn) of Pittsfield, Illinois, Glenn "Chub" Heins (Marilyn)of Coatsburg, Illinois;  Two sisters: Carol Haine (Ken) of Hannibal, Missouri, Julie Damon (Tom) of Quincy;  Evan is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services, Thursday (July 26, 2012) 10:00 in the Camp Point United Methodist Church; Rev. Joe Tomich officiating.  Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Camp Point.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Lummis Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Camp Point United Methodist Church, Adams County Old Tyme Association or The Camp Point Library.

HARRISBURG, ILL. -  Robert George Lambourn, 68, of Harrisburg, passed away on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at his residence in Harrisburg.

He was born in Wenona on June 13, 1940, to the late George William and A. Louise (Wright) Lambourn.

Robert was an educator, the executive director of Pioneer Center of McHenry County, as well as an entrepreneur.  He was an avid outdoorsman, beloved friend and neighbor; he enjoyed gardening and entertaining.

Surviving family members include a son, Michael Lambourn of McHenry;  two daughters, Sarah (Mark) Drake of Rock Island and Laura (Tom) Campanella of Lake Villa;  grandchildren, Onna, Caleb, and Aubrey Drake and Vincent and Nikko Campanella; and sisters, Ann, Evalyn, Bonnie, and Georgene.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg.  Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Henning joined their father to become the second generation of ownership.  Following Robert's death in April of 1995, Richard's wife Karla became an active member of the firm.  Richard W. ATHENS - Richard E. Henning, 55, of Athens died Friday, May 27, 2005, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 29, 1949, in Springfield, the son of W. Emory and Marjorie Stabler Henning.  He married Karla Engel in 1970 in Athens.

Mr. Henning graduated from Athens High School in 1968, Illinois State University in 1972 and Worsham College of Mortuary Science at Chicago in 1973.  He was a funeral director at Mott and Henning Funeral Home for more than 32 years.

He was a volunteer for the Athens Fire Department for several years, a Lions Club charter member and past president, board member of Athens State Bank for several years, Joel Hall Cemetery treasurer for more than 30 years, member of the Menard County Housing Authority, Illinois Funeral Directors Association and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman.

Survivors: wife, Karla;  two daughters, Kim (husband, Brandon) Kiefer of Cedar Park, Texas, and Kara Henning of Athens;  son, Rich (wife, Valerie) Henning of Athens;  two sisters, Janet (husband, Larry) Brown of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Alice (husband, Don) Washington of Athens;  two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Athens Christian Church, the Rev. Ken Gennicks, the Rev. James Stuenkel and the Rev. Robert Hanson officiating.  Burial: Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.

Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens is in charge of arrangements.

Karla E. (Engel) Henning was born March 19, 1950 in Springfield, the daughter of Carl and Daisy (Dufer) Engel.  Karla grew up with one sister and two brothers on a farm near Cantrall, Illinois.

Ms. Henning graduated from Athens High School in 1968 and continued her education at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Illinois, earning her Surgical Technician Degree.  Karla married Richard E. Henning on January 24, 1970 in Athens, Illinois.  Dick and Karla have three children, Kimberly, Kara and Rich.  They also have three beautiful granddaughters, Jana and Kari Kiefer and Isabelle Henning.

Karla is employed at Mott & Henning funeral home where she works with her son, Rich and Greg Bowles.  She is a family assistant and helps manage all aspects of the funeral home.

Karla is a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman.  She is a past member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Athens, where she belonged to the ladies group, Ruth Naomi Circle and where she also taught Sunday School for three-year-old children for many years.

Even with the lose of husband Dick, Karla strives to provide service to the community and the families that Mott & Henning assists.  She offers the same dedication and respect to funeral home customers as she does her own family.

The William R. Henning Meat Science Enrichment Fund will provide funds for teaching, research and extension science programs in meat science.

The William R. Henning Meat Science Enrichment Fund has been established at Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences in honor of Dr. William R. Henning, Professor Emeritus, Department of Animal Science, to provide funds for teaching, research and extension programs in meat science.

The fund was created in lieu of gifts at Henning's retirement in 2006 to honor his contributions to the meat industry in Pennsylvania and nationally.  Funds may be used by students and/or faculty to support research, travel costs associated with competitions and special teaching and learning projects that benefit students.  This is the first endowment to the meat science program.

Dr. Terry Etherton, Head of the Department of Animal Science, said, "We are absolutely delighted with this contribution that will allow us to provide additional opportunities for our faculty and student in meat science.  Dr. Henning's contributions to the meat industry have been tremendously valuable, and this endowment will ensure that the activities that support our premier curriculum can continue.  We are very grateful for this gift.".

Henning received a B.S. degree in Animal Science with a minor in chemistry from Western Illinois University in 1968.  He earned both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky.

Henning said, "I am pleased that this fund will support students in the very important activities that enrich their collegiate experience and contribute so much to the broader agricultural community.  Coaching teams and being part of the faculty has been such a meaningful part of my life, and it gives me pleasure to make further opportunities available."

He joined the Penn State faculty in 1983 as an Extension Specialist and Coach of the Meats Judging Team.  He not only coached the collegiate team, but also worked closely with 4-H and FFA judging teams in Pennsylvania and throughout the northeast.  He wrote a section about veal evaluation in the Meat Evaluation Handbook for judges and taught live animal carcass evaluation.  Henning was instrumental in helping establish the Pennsylvania Farm Show Scholarship Foundation, which has awarded $1 million in scholarships in its 20-year history.

Well-known as an extension meat specialist, Henning presented educational programs on meat quality and food safety, and also offered training in food safety and HACCP requirements in Pennsylvania and the East Coast.  Henning worked closely with the Pennsylvania Beef Council and the Pennsylvania Pork Council in developing educational programs for producers, consumers, home economists, and Registered Dietitians.  Henning has provided leadership in developing educational programs for the Pennsylvania Association of Meat Processors, the Eastern Meat Packers Association, the American Association of Meat Processors and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association where he served on the Beef Quality Assurance Advisory committee and helped train beef specialists across the country in Dairy Beef Quality Assurance.

After retiring from Penn State, he has continued to contribute to the industry as a private consultant, working extensively with small meat plants throughout the region and continuing to interact with industry groups having a strong and positive influence.  He continues to serve on the Board of Directors for the American Meat Science Foundation and the PA Farm Show Scholarship Foundation.

In 2012, the American Meat Science Association (AMSA) honored Henning with the Intercollegiate Meat Judging Meritorious Service Award, awarded for "outstanding contributions or service to the Intercollegiate Meat judging program."

The Meat Science Enrichment Fund's initial principal of $25,000 has been contributed by meat industry supporters and by friends and family of William R. Henning.  Additional contributions may be made by interested persons or organizations by contacting the College of Agricultural Sciences Development Office at 814-863-1373.

GODFREY - Retiring Lewis and Clark Math Professor Karl Zilm was honored this past April with an Illinois Mathematics Association of Community Colleges (IMACC) Distinguished Service Award, as well as a Lifetime Member Award.

Zilm, originally from Carlinville but now of Godfrey, was commended for his years of dedication, leadership and service to the IMACC at the organization's 38th Annual Conference, held at Allerton Park near Monticello, Ill. on Friday, April 5.  The IMACC Life Membership Award is reserved for IMACC members who are retiring and who have been active in IMACC throughout their career.  Zilm is retiring from Lewis and Clark Community College this spring, after 40 years of teaching in the math department.

Zilm's interest in teaching was sparked during his senior year at Blackburn College in Carlinville, where he enjoyed working with students as a math department assistant.  While at Purdue University on a teaching assistantship, he fell in love with teaching.

"As a teaching assistant in graduate school, I noted that freshmen and sophomores needed and appreciated attention to their learning needs as students who are beginning their college-level learning experiences," he said.  "Teaching at a community college seemed to be a natural fit for me."

Richard W. "Rich" Henning was born August 25th, 1976 in Springfield, the son of Dick and Karla (Engel) Henning.  Rich grew up in Athens with two older sisters, Kim (Henning) Keifer and Kara (Henning) Nordstrom.

Rich graduated from Athens Community High School in May of 1994.  He enrolled at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois in the fall of 1994 and graduated in December of 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.  In March of 1999, Rich enrolled at Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois.  He worked at Donnellan Family Funeral Services during this time.  He graduated from Worsham in March of 2000, receiving eight awards.

Following his training in Evanston, Rich served as an apprentice funeral director/embalmer at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.  Following the year of apprenticeship, Rich received his license in March of 2001.

Upon his licensure, Rich was hired as a full-time Funeral Director/Embalmer at Mott & Henning Funeral Home.  Rich's duties include all funeral home responsibilities which include: consultation with families; preparing necessary notices, authorizations, and consents; coordinating with clergy, cemeteries, musicians, vault companies, etc.; and preparation of the body.  He also handles the day-to-day management of the funeral home with his mother, Karla and co-worker Greg Bowles.

Rich also advises families on pre-planning funerals.  He became a licensed life insurance producer in 2001 in order to help families pre finance funerals.

Rich's memberships are centered around the Athens community.  He is a member of the Athens Rotary Club, serving as the vice-president and president.  Rich is a board member of the Joel Hall Cemetery Association, serving as the current treasurer.  He also is a member of the Athens United Methodist Church.

Rich married Valerie DeVillez on March 31, 2001 in Tinley Park, Illinois.  Valerie is employed at Illini Central Grade School in Mason City, Illinois as the Director of Student Services.  In October of 2008 they became the proud parents of Isabelle Paige.

Regent Linda Hughes introduced the American History essay winner:  Nicole Henning, daughter of Joe and Renea Henning of Quincy.  Nicole is an eighth grader at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School.  She read her essay to the group.

The topic for 2009-10 was "Describe how you felt on May 10, 1869, when the golden spoke was driven at Promontory Summit, Utah, to celebrate the First Transcontinental Railroad.  Pretend you are either a settler planning to use the train to travel to your new home in the West, an Irish or Chinese worker who helped build the line, or a Native American whose way of life was greatly affected by the railroad."   Nicole's essay advanced to District V for judging.
