Notes for Joseph Jefferson Price:

Price, Mayor Jay Berry; THE PRICE, BLAKEMORE, HAMBLEN, SKIPWITH AND ALLIED LINES, 1992, Chapter 1, Generation No. 36-A, Pages 215 - 227:

    1. CYNTHIA EUGENIA SPEIGHT was a member of the Methodist Church and JOSEPH JEFFERSON PRICE, her first husband, was a member of the Baptist Church.
    2. JOSEPH JEFFERSON PRICE and his wife CYNTHIA EUGENIA (SPEIGHT) PRICE, moved from Dade County, Missouri, to Haskell County, Kansas, in 1886 near Santa Fe, Kansas, which as a town no longer exists, with all buildings gone and the site returned to farmland.  The existence of the town ended in the early 1920s and it is no longer shown on modern day maps (1986).  In the 1880s the town of Santa Fe, Haskell County, Kansas, was part of the famous “Santa Fe Trail” for the westward expansion of the new settlers, some known as “Sod Busters.”  Santa Fe, Kansas, was about six miles north of Sublette, Haskell County, Kansas.
    3. JOSEPH JEFFERSON PRICE died of typhoid fever and his grave was unmarked from 1887 until 1982, when his grandson, JAY BERRY PRICE (born 1915) had a tombstone made in Los Angeles, California, and transported it by automobile during a vacation trip, and had it erected at the correct site, which location was unknown to the family until research done by JAY BERRY PRICE in 1978, at the Haskell County courthouse disclosed the grave site as part of a private cemetery that had been purchased by Haskell County and was only the 5th grave sold (for $5.00) while it was a private cemetery.

      2. Haskell County Review, No. 7, Santa Fe, Haskell County, Kansas, 13 Aug 1887. Obituary JOSEPH PRICE, of Loco, joined the silent majority on Tuesday, last, aged 26 years, another good citizen gone, mourned by the entire community.
    6. JOSEPH JEFFERSON PRICE and his brother, WILLIAM ALEXANDER PRICE, made about three different trips during the 10 years of the 1870s driving cattle over the prairie trail from southwest of San Antonio, Texas to Dodge City, Kansas.  They borrowed enough gold coin from a man by the name of Newsberger in Chicago to make it possible to buy about 1,000 head of cattle, each time, at from $7.00 to $15.00 a head.  They would carry this gold coin with them on their way to Texas by horse.  They would leave Missouri in January and buy the cattle in Texas during February or March.  The drive would start in April and end in Dodge City, Kansas, during late June or early July.  The cattle would increase in weight during this time, fattening on the grass along the trail.  Mr. Newsberger would always meet them at Dodge City, Kansas, and buy the cattle at the established rate at that point.

Notes for Joseph Jefferson Price:

Price, Mayor Jay Berry; THE PRICE, BLAKEMORE, HAMBLEN, SKIPWITH AND ALLIED LINES, 1992, Chapter 1, Generation No. 36-A, Pages 216 - 227:
