Wallowa County Obituaries, Source: Enterprise Record Chieftain, Enterprise, Oregon, Thursday, March 20. 1930, Contributed by: Sue Wells, View Obituary

Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon

Letha Arlene Shevlin, 13 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Shevlin of Imnaha, passed away March 17, 1930 at the home of Mrs. Doris Denny in Enterprise, where she had been under the medical care for the past three weeks.   She had been ill for some time with spinal trouble, but it was thought she was improving and a complete recovery was hoped for.   She took a turn for the worse early Monday morning and her parents were sent for.   They came as quickly as possible but reached her bedside only three hours before the end came.   The body was taken to the Park cemetery for burial.

Letha Arlene Shevlin was born in Joseph, Jan. 21, 1917, and died March 17, 1930, At the age of 13 years, 1 month and 27 days, When a few weeks old, her mother took her to their home on upper Imnaha, where all the years of her short life was passed.

Letha was a girl of exceptional ability and trustworthy to an unusual degree for one so young and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her parents, a sister, Mrs. Tom Ward of Boise, Idaho, a brother, Arleigh Shevlin of Imnaha, a younger sister, Ruby, a small brother, Keithley, and Rita Lee, a baby sister, besides a host of relatives and friends.

The family has the sympathy of all in their deep grief.

There are stars that go out in the Darkness
But whose silvery light shineth on
There are roses whose perfume still Lingers
When the blossoms are faded and Gone
There are hearts full of light and of Sweetness
When no longer their life current Flows
Still their goodness lives on with the Living
Like the heart of the star and the Rose.
