RAMBO FAMILY, Although there are many separate Rambo family lines, it is believed that most all the ancestors of the Rambo surname in America dated from Peter Gunnarson Rambo of Sweden.  The Rambo name is not Swedish, but French in origin and has many other spellings such as Rambeau, Rambax, Rambeauo, Rumbo. Rambaugh and Rambout, among others.

During the time of the Reformation all of Europe was in religious and political turmoil.  In 1572, many French Protestants living along the coastal area of France fled to Sweden and to other northern European countries to escape Slaughter.

Moses Rambo was first found in 1825, Hickman County taxpayer list;   Land Grants of Kentucky shows Moses Rambo received 160 acres.

In 1850 we have Moses Rambo’s known children: Mary, David, Thomas and Elisa; his wife was Nancy Burgess.

Thomas H. (born 1818, died July 31, 1866) married about 1850 to Sarah (born 1829, died Dec, 22, 1874).  Known children: Elias, Mary Jane, John David, Augusta, James E., Soloman M. [and] Buennista.

Farmington Public Library -1904 Obituary

Mr. John A. Marks died at his home in Farmington Thursday morning, June 30th.  Mr. Marks had been in poor health for some time.  He leaves a wife and one daughter, Mrs. Clara Lallumendier, of Ste. Genevieve County, a mother, one sister, Mrs. J. Smith of Libertyville, and a brother, W. T. Marks, to mourn his death.  They have the sympathy of many friends.

BEN E. MARKS

Benjamin Edgar Marks passed away at his home on Farmington Route Three about three o’clock Wednesday afternoon, Aug 11, 1937, after a lingering illness, aged 76 years, 8 months and 10 days..

Funeral services will be held at the home at two o’clock this Friday afternoon.  Interment will be in the Marks family burying ground.

Benjamin Edgar Marks was born on the old Marks homestead on Dec. 1, 1858, son of the late John and Mary Laws Marks.  He was united in Marriage to Evalyn Dobbins.  To their union six children were born.  One Daughter died in infancy.  He is survived by his widow and the following children:  Raymond and Thomas Marks, of St. Louis;   Mrs. Irene Hayes and Robert Marks, of Alton, Ill. And Ben Edgar Marks, Jr., at home, also seven grandchildren and one brother, John G. Marks of Farmington Route Three.
